Seongmin Shin, 신성민 (he/his)
I am a Ph.D. candidate at the Ashley School of Global Development and the Environment, Cornell University. My research examines how markets, institutions, and emerging technologies shape land-use decisions, environmental governance, and climate resilience across agricultural and forest landscapes.
I combine quantitative and qualitative field research with spatial analysis, remote sensing, and institutional analysis. My work focuses particularly on carbon markets, agroforestry, rural livelihoods, and food security, with extensive field experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
Before beginning my doctoral studies, I worked with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), connecting interdisciplinary research with environmental policy and development practice.
